La Chiesa di Sant’Andrea degli Scozzesi

18 December 2026

Italian Scotland has sponsored a fascinating new exhibition in collaboration with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Edimburgo and we want you to go along and see it!

Visitors to the exhibition get to use high-tech virtual reality headsets to visit a forgotten corner of Scotland in Rome.

You can visit the exhibition FREE until 18 December 2026, at the Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh, 20-22 East London Street, Edinburgh.

The exhibition is dedicated to the deep and centuries-old bond between Italy and Scotland, through the rediscovery of the Church of Sant’Andrea degli Scozzesi on Via delle Quattro Fontane, which for over three centuries has been a focal point for the Scottish community in the heart of Rome.

The old Scots College Chapel closed in 1962 but it was here that Archbishop Conti and Cardinal Winning studied as students along with generations of young Scots seminarians from the 1600s onwards. It has been closed to the public for decades but now thanks to the new technology you can visit it the next time you are in Edinburgh.

The Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Edinburgh, Stefano De Angelis, spoke at the opening, highlighting in his address how the initiative fits perfectly within one of the main themes promoted by the Institute: the celebration of those places and figures which, over time, have helped to strengthen bilateral cultural relations between Italy and Scotland.
